Retraction & Correction

Retraction & Correction (R & C) Policy

We understand that authors have worked carefully to prepare manuscripts and that the journal has carried out peer-review processes. However, published articles may occasionally require withdrawal or removal for scientific reasons. Such actions should not be taken lightly and should occur only under extraordinary circumstances.

Corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies, when necessary, will be issued according to strict standards to maintain confidence in the journal’s electronic archives. Our commitment is to preserve the integrity and completeness of the scholarly record for researchers and librarians.

Article Retraction

MANAGIERE: Journal of Islamic Educational Management is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. On occasion, it may therefore be necessary to retract articles. Articles may be retracted if:

  • There is a major scientific error that invalidates the article’s conclusions, including clear evidence that the findings are unreliable because of misconduct, such as data fabrication, or honest error, such as miscalculation or experimental error.

  • The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification, constituting redundant publication.

  • There are ethical issues, such as plagiarism or inappropriate authorship. Plagiarism includes the appropriation of another person’s ideas, processes, results, or words without appropriate credit, including material obtained through confidential review of other authors’ manuscripts.

To ensure that retractions are handled according to publication best practices and COPE’s Retraction Guidelines, MANAGIERE: Journal of Islamic Educational Management adopts the following process:

  1. An article that may require retraction is brought to the journal editor’s attention.

  2. The editor follows the relevant COPE flowcharts, including evaluating the response from the author of the article in question.

  3. Before any action is taken, the editor’s findings are submitted to the Ethics Advisory Board to ensure a consistent approach in accordance with publication best practices.

  4. The final decision is communicated to the author and, when necessary, other relevant bodies, such as the author’s institution.

  5. The retraction statement is posted online and published in the next available issue of the journal.

Authors’ retention of copyright does not automatically give them the right to retract an article after publication. The integrity of the published scholarly record remains paramount, and COPE’s Retraction Guidelines still apply.

Article Correction

MANAGIERE: Journal of Islamic Educational Management should consider issuing a correction if:

  • A small part of an otherwise reliable publication reports flawed data or proves misleading, especially when this results from honest error.

  • The author or contributor list is incorrect, such as when a deserving author has been omitted or someone who does not meet the authorship criteria has been included.

Corrections to peer-reviewed content fall into three categories:

  • Publisher Correction (Erratum): Notifies readers of a significant error made by the publisher or journal staff, usually during production, that negatively affects the publication record, the scientific integrity of the article, or the reputation of the authors or journal.

  • Author Correction (Corrigendum): Notifies readers of a significant error made by the authors that negatively affects the publication record, the scientific integrity of the article, or the reputation of the authors or journal.

  • Addendum: Provides additional information from the authors to explain inconsistencies, expand the existing work, or clarify or update information in the original article.

The decision to issue a correction rests with the editors, who may seek advice from reviewers or Editorial Board members. Handling editors will contact the authors for clarification, but the final decision on whether a correction is required and which type to issue remains with the editors.

Article Removal

In an extremely limited number of cases, it may be necessary to remove a published article from the journal’s online platform. This may occur if an article is clearly defamatory, infringes others’ legal rights, is subject to a court order or reasonably expected to become subject to one, or may pose a serious health risk if acted upon.

In such circumstances, the article’s metadata, including its title and author information, will be retained. The article text will be replaced with a notice indicating that it has been removed for legal reasons.

Article Replacement

If an article may pose a serious health risk when acted upon, the authors may wish to retract the flawed original article and replace it with a corrected version.

In such circumstances, the retraction procedures described above will be followed. The retraction notice will include a link to the corrected, republished article together with the document’s publication history.
